Principal's Message
Message from the Principal
Dear Grover Beach Families,
I want to extend a warm welcome to all of our students and families! I am Principal Petra Reynolds, and I am so proud to serve as your principal.
At Grover Beach Elementary, we are committed to making sure that every student feels safe, welcome, and seen. I strive to know each student's name and ensure they feel my care for them every day. Our amazing teachers and staff are dedicated to serving our community with care, and I am incredibly proud to lead alongside them.
As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, we follow a special mission: to develop young people who are curious, knowledgeable, and caring. We want to help our students create a better and more peaceful world through understanding and respect for each other, themselves, and the people of the world.
At Grover Beach Elementary, we work to ensure all students reach high levels of learning, develop their emotional intelligence, and feel empowered to take action to make a positive difference in their school, community, and the world.
The IB Learner Profile is a set of 10 important attributes we encourage in all our members of our community. These qualities help our learners grow into responsible, successful, and kind global citizens.
As IB learners, we strive to be:
- Inquirers: We love to learn and ask good questions.
- Knowledgeable: We explore ideas that matter both locally and around the world.
- Thinkers: We use critical thinking to solve problems responsibly.
- Communicators: We share our ideas confidently and listen carefully to others' perspectives.
- Principled: We act with honesty and respect the rights of all people.
- Open-minded: We appreciate our own and other cultures, and we are willing to learn and grow from new points of view.
- Caring: We show empathy, compassion, and respect. Showing empathy and respect in all our interactions is also part of the Grover Beach Vision for our community.
- Risk-takers: We are determined, try new ideas, and are resilient when things are challenging.
- Balanced: We understand that it's important to balance our intellectual, physical, and emotional health.
- Reflective: We think about our ideas and experiences to understand our strengths and how we can keep getting better.
We don’t just hope our students develop these important qualities, we help them develop them through purposeful instruction and positive acknowledgement when we see them in action! Please use this language with your student at home to solidify the connection between the values of school and home. When you see them being an IB Learner, let them know how proud you are of their amazing contribution to developing a connected and accepting world! It takes all of us to take action to create the positive and peaceful society that we want our children to inherit.
We look forward to partnering with you this year to help your child grow into an inquiring and caring member of our community!
All the best always,
Petra Reynolds
