Principal's Message

Dear Grover Beach Families,

I want to extend a warm welcome to all of our students and families! I am Michelle Neal, and I am so proud to serve as your principal.

At Grover Beach Elementary, we are committed to making sure that every student feels safe, welcome, and seen. I strive to know each student's name and ensure they feel my care for them every day. Our amazing teachers and staff are dedicated to serving our community with care, and I am incredibly proud to lead alongside them.

As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School supported by our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework, we guide our students using three foundational school-wide expectations:

• Be Respectful: Treat others with kindness, honor diverse perspectives, and take care of our school environment.
• Be Responsible: Take ownership of your learning, actions, and choices every day.
• Be Ready to Learn: Arrive prepared, focused, open-minded, and excited to grow.

These expectations connect directly to our IB mission: to develop young people who are curious, knowledgeable, and caring global citizens. We work to ensure all students reach high levels of learning, build emotional intelligence, and feel empowered to make a positive difference in their school and community.

Our PBIS expectations live within the 10 IB Learner Profile attributes we foster in our students:

• Inquirers (Ready to Learn): We love to learn, bring enthusiasm to class, and ask great questions.
• Knowledgeable & Thinkers (Responsible): We explore meaningful ideas and use critical thinking to solve problems thoughtfully.
• Communicators & Principled (Respectful & Responsible): We share ideas, listen carefully to others, and act with honesty and integrity.
• Open-minded & Caring (Respectful): We appreciate different cultures, show empathy, and practice kindness in all interactions—a core pillar of our Grover Beach Vision.
• Risk-takers, Balanced, & Reflective (Ready to Learn): We try new things, care for our emotional and physical health, and reflect on how we can keep getting better.

We don’t just hope our students develop these qualities—we teach them through purposeful instruction and celebrate them through positive PBIS acknowledgments when we see them in action!

Please use this language at home to reinforce the connection between school and home. When you see your child being respectful, responsible, or ready to learn, let them know how proud you are of their efforts. It takes all of us working together to build a connected, safe, and positive environment for our children.
